Jo and Holly Bates make up Team Bates. Holly has been riding all of her life and has specialised in dressage from an early age. She has had wins at regional championships and several high placings at the National Dressage Championships. She has trained their own horse Cambridge from a three year old right up to just under Grand Prix. Together they have been highly placed at high profile dressage shows at Prix St Georges and have now qualified to compete internationally.
She was awarded a Tass scholarship at the age of 16. She has also had great success showing but her main love is dressage. She is also a qualified sports massage therapist and is a keen photographer who has had many magazine publications.
Jo has also ridden all of her life and started showing on her mother’s home bred ponies (Greenacres) and was extremely successful. She also rode other clients ponies to great success as well. She was side saddle rider of the year in 1976 and 1977 when she was 14 and 15 and was also a member of the British junior dressage team in 1977 and 1978 when she was 15 and 16 becoming National Junior Dressage Champion in 1978. Jo has also evented up to Intermediate level. In dressage she has had many successes up to Intermediate I level with regional wins and high placings at the National Championships.
In showing, Jo has won championships at most county shows including Royal Windsor, the Royal International and Horse of the Year Show with horses ranging from hacks, riding horses, hunters, cobs, mountain and moorlands, coloured horses and racehorses to name a few. She has also judged at most county shows and has also judged abroad.
Jo has also trained riders to win at the National Dressage Championships and has trained showing riders to win at the Royal International Horse Show and Horse of the Year Show as well as other major county shows.
